About

Hey,

I’m Betty and this is my weight loss story. I really hope that it inspires a lot of people who are struggling!

Let me start by saying that my family doesn’t have the best genetics. Both of my parents are overweight. My grandparents were overweight. All of my aunt and uncles are- you guessed it- overweight! Obviously, it seemed like I was doomed from the start to become overweight just like the rest of my family.

And so it began. By the time I was in middle school, I was already overweight. Not by a whole lot, probably 20 pounds- but that’s a large percentage when you’re only 12 years old! While most girls my age were extremely skinny and playing sports, I was the fat kid in the class. I spent my evenings sitting at home just reading or watching TV because I didn’t have many friends.

Of course everyone started giving me nicknames. The most common by far was Big Belly Betty, but there were most vicious names that I won’t discuss. Anyways, things were bad.

By the time I got to college I was over 200 pounds. I don’t have to tell you that for a woman, that’s overweight no matter how tall you are! I’m not extremely tall (5’ 6”), so I was definitely heavier than I needed to be.

At the end of my junior year of college, I started planning for my senior year, applying for jobs, and planning a backpacking trip across Europe. I started thinking about how I could get the most out of my last year of school, and I realized that I’d have a much better time if I was in shape. It was May, and I was loathing another summer of never wearing a bathing suit because I was self-conscious about my body.

So that’s when I decided to get serious about my weight loss. I started doing a lot of research online. What I was looking for is a program  that’s not about spending tons of time in the gym or even giving up all of your favorite foods. I wanted something that I could stick to for life and I knew that it would involve changing my diet and doing some type of exercise.

The result?

There are tons of products online from programs, ebooks, videos, pills, and tons of product reviews trying to sell you the miracle product. But don’t get fulled. No product is perfect and if someone tells you it is, then you should dig further.

The good news is that there are really good products out there that actually work. So I have created this website tips-for-weightloss.org to share with you my findings so that you don’t waste another dime on programs or pills that won’t work for you. I have lost 40 pounds so far and I am keeping it off!

Again I hope this encourages anyone struggling to lose weight. Know that you can definitely do it- I know because I did!
