This is a series of objective articles on the many weight loss alternatives on the market today. These articles will help you sort through the hyper-active Weight Loss products market and decide which will best support you personal goals.

A person searching for the most effective weight loss methods needs an unbiased review of the different methods. Anyone who tells you they are unbiased is simply not being honest (remember those multi, multi billions of dollars?) I believe I can make a compelling case for my products, but some people may not want to lose weight using my method. I respect that. In fact, if my way isn’t appealing to you then I’d much rather find out before we get started than after.

Getting Results With Diet Pills

Diet pills are usually designed to suppress your appetite. You consume fewer calories and you lose weight. This method does not address nutrition or the habits that let to your weight gain to begin with and they certainly don’t address the long list of nutritional deficiencies that plague people who struggle with their weight.

Appetite suppressants are frequently combined with stimulants. The effect is to give you “more energy” which stimulates activity and increases basal metabolism, the number of calories you burn at rest, through a thermogenic effect.

There have been many products in this category to come and go. Most notably Fen-phen and similar pharmaceuticals. These products have been linked to serious side effects including Pulmonary Hypertension and heart valve damage. Even some “natural” products have been sidelined due to unscrupulous practices of some manufacturers and the ignorance demonstrated by some end uses. Most notable among these is Ephedrine.

I raced bicycles for years and Ephedrine was very popular for its energy boosting properties. I had a team mate who once took eight of them at one time (if one works, eight will make you ‘Superman’, right?). Idiotic! It is that kind of abuse that has given natural supplements a bad name.

The upside to diet pills is that they are easy and you don’t have to think about what you eat. This is the right product for those who are always looking for a quick fix.

The downside is that diet pills do not promote balanced nutrition or offer any accountability or coaching for lasting change. They usually come with instructions the size of a post-it note. Most people who turn to diet pills are “yo-yo” dieters and gain back the weight as fast as they lose it.

You have to avoid the “more is better” mentality with diet pills, knowing they are designed to complement a sound nutrition and exercise plan and not replace it.

Whether you are trimming down to impress or searching for a health solution by losing weight, the choices that face you in choosing a method, product or program are many.

Skilled advertisers pull out all the stops to convince you that their company is the one for you.

An excellent example of a projected perception through advertising are Medically Supervised Weight Loss programs. To be clear, this is not a discussion about your family physician or specialist who may be supervising your weight loss.

This is about offices or clinics who’s sole purpose is weight loss. These weight loss programs that involve “medical supervision”. These are simply more sophisticated versions of the appetite suppressant/stimulant method already mentioned. Many people turn to these because of the comfort level offered by going to a doctor’s office (or something that looks like a doctor’s office-medically supervised rarely means a doctor) for “treatment”.

Most popular among these are the HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) programs. Again, to stress, these programs only address the reduction of calories and are generally promoted as a “jump start” to get you progressing toward your goal.

In the case of HCG programs, credible dietiticians recommend a minimum of 1200 calories a day for women and 1500 calories a day for men and the HCG program suggests less than half of that. The appeal for many is that they seem to work so fast and since most people focus only on weight and inches lost, they deliver as promised. Drawbacks include:

Time traveling to a clinic or office.ExpensePossible side effects from the injections or drugs administered.

A credible program will offer nutritional coaching and a program to help you make the transition from the intensely supervised process to a more natural program you can integrate into your life.

This series of articles is designed to help you choose a program or product that will work for you.

This is another in a series of articles to help you sort through the hype and high-dollar advertising in the weight loss and diet industry.

Once you’re committed to losing weight you have to decide on a method or product to help you reach your goal. Losing weight can be as simple as eating less and moving more but personal tastes, past experiences and lifestyle often interfere with one method or another.

Some methods clearly work better or faster than others and some promote longer lasting results. The following is one of many popular methods you may be considering along with pros and cons of each.

Juices or Extracts From Plants

These are juices made from various organics that are said to promote weight loss, like berries and fruits. The weight loss is actually achieved more through a dramatic reduction in calories than the properties of the organic base.

Most plant products are loaded with anti-oxidants and vitamins absent in most diets-which is a very good thing- and if you are drinking juice instead of eating solid food, you will lose weight.

Using juices for weight loss is convenient but can be challenging depending on the product you choose. Protein curbs hunger and juices are practically devoid of protein. Cleansing cycles or juice fasts can be tough to get through due to hunger.

Using a juice diet also promotes hydration, which is a key in any successful weight loss program. This method also does not promote complete nutrition. In fact, while most people are looking for a panacea, reading the fine print will reveal that pills and juices are only recommended as part of an overall healthy nutritional program.

There is no ‘magic bean’ that gives you everything you need. Use this informative series to help you sort out and decide on a program that suites you and get a comparison chart to make it easier to make your final choice.
